As-purchased in 2004 for $2600.
1966 Nauset Model
Fiberglass gel coat repair and hardware replacement
The as-purchased woodwork was faithfully configured to match factory dimensions, but built with inferior wood species; thus the paint. The console and seat were removed and used along with the original whaler drawings and data as a template for the final drawings.
New solid Honduran mahogany and marine mahogany plywood were fabricated for the console and pilot seat. The original design was then modified using various alternative details to improve the design and allow access to console storage by flipping up. The panel incorporating the marine radio, stereo, speakers and fuel filler is a stand-alone, non-original unit so the remaining console is not detracted by these utilities. The side handles on the reversible pilot seat were foreshortened to allow sitting sideways for an improved fishing position and allowed pivoting out of the seat without being hemmed-in by the handle.
Completed work including a drop curtain to protect the electronics.
Completed project ready for sun, fun & show
